Renting a chalet in Tyrol – what really matters

Rent a chalet in Tyrol instead of a hotel? We explain what to look for when choosing – and why Leutasch is one of the most beautiful places for it.

Renting a chalet in Tyrol – this wish comes up more and more often when families, couples or groups of friends are looking for an alternative to the classic hotel holiday. And rightly so: your own chalet means privacy, space to breathe and the feeling of truly having arrived – not just been checked in.

Why a chalet is often better than a hotel

Hotels in Tyrol are available in every price range. What they rarely offer: the feeling of home. In a private chalet you cook together, sit by the fireplace in the evenings, have breakfast whenever you like and have the terrace all to yourselves. Especially for families with children or groups of four or more, a chalet is quickly worth it – and above all it's simply more fun.

  • No fixed breakfast or dinner times
  • Your own kitchen – ideal for families and longer stays
  • Private garden with barbecue – perfect for outdoor evenings
  • Private sauna in Chalet Steinadler, fenced garden at Rothirsch & Gamsbock
  • No hustle in the breakfast room, no queuing at the buffet
  • More space per person than in typical hotel rooms
  • More peace and retreat options for the whole group

What to look for when renting a chalet in Tyrol

1. Location and surroundings

Tyrol is large – and depending on the location you get a very different holiday experience. Chalets right in a ski resort are convenient in winter, but often noisy and expensive. Chalets in quieter valleys like the Leutasch valley offer more nature, less hustle and still short distances to slopes, hiking trails and attractions. Leutasch is just a few minutes from Seefeld – the Olympic region with over 270 kilometres of cross-country ski trails and a well-developed winter sports network.

2. Facilities – not everything that glitters is gold

Photos of chalets often look dreamy. The difference shows in the details: How well equipped is the kitchen? Is there really a private sauna or is it a shared spa area? What is the quality of the bed linen? Are towels and cleaning included? These questions separate upmarket holiday accommodation from simple holiday apartments with wood panelling.

3. Minimum stay and flexibility

Many chalets in Tyrol require a minimum stay of 5 or 7 nights – especially during peak season. Also check the cancellation policy: a flexible booking system is very valuable, especially in times of unforeseen events.

4. How many people is the chalet really suitable for?

"Up to 8 people" can mean many things. Check how many bedrooms there are and how many bathrooms. The Wilderer Chalets, for example, each offer four bedrooms and three bathrooms: the master bedroom has its own en-suite bathroom, there is another bathroom on the upper floor and a third on the ground floor – absolutely comfortable for a group of up to 8 people.

Leutasch – one of the most beautiful places for a chalet holiday in Tyrol

The Leutasch valley in the Wetterstein mountains is one of the least crowded valleys in Tyrol – and at the same time one of the most beautiful. At an altitude of 1,136 metres, it offers dreamy hiking trails in summer, crystal-clear streams and authentic Tyrolean alpine culture. In winter, the valley transforms into a snow paradise with groomed cross-country trails right on your doorstep, snowshoe routes and short distances to the Seefeld and Zugspitz Arena ski resorts.

The Wilderer Chalets – rent exclusively in Leutasch

The three Wilderer Chalets – Rothirsch, Gamsbock and Steinadler – are located directly on the edge of the forest in Weidach, the quietest part of Leutasch. Each chalet accommodates up to 8 people, with four bedrooms, a spacious kitchen-living room with wood-burning stove and a panoramic terrace overlooking the forest.

Chalet Steinadler is the only one with its own private sauna – ideal for those who want to truly relax after a long day of hiking or skiing. All three chalets have their own garden and a barbecue – perfect for summer evenings on the terrace. Chalet Rothirsch and Gamsbock also have a fenced garden, making them the ideal choice for families with children or dogs.

Summer or winter – when is a chalet in Tyrol worth it?

The honest answer: at any time of year. In summer you use the chalet as a base for hikes, bike rides and excursions – and enjoy the evenings on the terrace. In winter it is the warm retreat after a day on the slopes or snowshoeing. The fire is burning, it's snowing outside – and you don't have to go anywhere.

  • Summer: hiking, biking, swimming in Wildsee, excursions to Innsbruck or the Zugspitze
  • Winter: skiing in Seefeld, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, sledging
  • Spring & autumn: quietest and most affordable time – pure nature without the crowds

If you want to rent a chalet in Tyrol that truly meets all expectations – exclusive location, high-quality furnishings, plenty of space and genuine peace – then the Wilderer Chalets in Leutasch are one of the best addresses in the whole country.
