Möserer See with Children and Dog – a Day Trip That Works for Everyone

At 1,295 metres, the Möserer See is one of Tyrol's warmest natural lakes – with a forest playground, dogs welcome and the cosy Seestub'n. A day trip tip from the Wilderer Chalets in Leutasch.

Some day trips work for one member of the family. And some work for everyone: children, parents, dog. The Möserer See near Seefeld is one of those places. At 1,295 metres above sea level, nestled in fir forest and a nature reserve, lies one of Tyrol's warmest natural lakes – with a forest playground right next door, a restaurant with a terrace and lake views, and plenty of space for everyone who came along.

The Möserer See – Tyrol's Warmest Natural Lake

The Möserer See is a moorland lake in a nature reserve – and that's precisely what makes it special. The water warms up to 25 degrees in summer, which is remarkable for a mountain lake at this altitude. The shore is lined with benches, the shade comes from the surrounding fir forest, and waterbirds drift across the lake, serenely ignoring all the activity. No loudspeakers, no wave pool, no crowds – just a lake the way it should be.

Forest Playground at the Möserer See – More Than Just a Swing

Right next to the lake, just a few metres from the Seestub'n, is one of the finest forest playgrounds in the region. 1,500 square metres, built almost entirely from wood, with a thick layer of bark mulch underfoot. There's a wooden house with a slide on a small hill, a sandpit with a real mechanical digger, a willow tunnel and balance and obstacle course elements that keep children of all ages busy. The basket swing is large enough for parents to join in. And on the forest clearing lives a large wooden lizard – patient enough to be climbed on and stroked. Children who claim they're already too old for playgrounds will play here regardless.

  • Willow tunnel for coordination and movement
  • Basket swing – large enough for parents and children together
  • Two spring rocker animals
  • Balance and obstacle course elements for all age groups
  • Wooden lizard for climbing and stroking
  • Natural bark mulch surface – soft and safe

Visiting the Möserer See with a Dog – What You Should Know

Dogs are welcome at the Möserer See – which is not a given at a bathing lake, but here it is. What you should know: dogs are not allowed to swim, as the lake is a protected nature reserve. That sounds stricter than it is – the forest path around the lake is wide enough for thorough sniffing sessions, the area around the playground offers space to roam, and the Seestub'n happily welcomes dogs on the terrace. With a dog that walks well on a lead, the Möserer See is a relaxed day out without compromises.

Möserer Seestub'n – A Break with Lake Views

When the children have exhausted the playground and the dog has finished its exploration, the Möserer Seestub'n is the logical next stop. Traditional Tyrolean cuisine, a terrace with direct lake views, ice cream for the little ones and enough shade to sit comfortably even in high summer. Not what you'd expect from a tourist restaurant – more the feeling of having found the right local inn.

Practical Information for Your Visit

  • Admission: free – the lake is freely accessible
  • Parking: car park available, now subject to a fee
  • Dogs: welcome, but not in the water – keep on a lead
  • Playground: right next to the lake, free, for all age groups
  • Dining: Möserer Seestub'n with terrace and lake views
  • Friedensglocke (Peace Bell): a cultural highlight nearby – worth a short detour
  • Water temperature: up to 25°C in summer – exceptionally warm for a mountain lake

From the Wilderer Chalets to the Möserer See

From the Wilderer Chalets in Leutasch-Weidach the Möserer See is about 25 minutes away – short enough for a spontaneous trip, far enough to feel like you've actually gone somewhere. Those who set off early in the morning will have the car park to themselves. Those who prefer a leisurely breakfast before leaving will still find a space. And those who return in the evening have exactly what matters most after a long day out: their own chalet, their own kitchen and no hotel operation waiting for them.

The Möserer See is what you're looking for when you want to spend a day by the water with children and a dog – no admission fee, no crowds, with a playground and a restaurant. And when you drive back in the evening, Leutasch already feels almost like home.

Wilderer Chalets Team

Tyrol has many lakes. The Möserer See is one of the few where everyone agrees: children want to come back, dogs have no objections, and parents sit relaxed on the terrace. That's rarer than you'd think – and that's why it's worth the trip.
