Restaurants in Leutasch & Around – Dinner in Tyrol
The best dinner restaurants around Leutasch: from the Weidachstube on foot to Schwarzfischer Stams – tips for every evening from the Wilderer Chalets.
June 7, 2026 · 6 min read
Your own chalet with a fully equipped kitchen means: cook for yourself whenever you like. But not every holiday evening belongs at the stove. Sometimes you simply want to sit down, order a glass of Tyrolean wine and let someone else do the cooking – without the washing-up afterwards. Around the Wilderer Chalets in Leutasch-Weidach there's a surprisingly good choice for exactly that: from the inn two minutes' walk away to the award-winning restaurant worth the half-hour drive into the Inntal. Here are our honest recommendations – standalone restaurants only, no hotel dining rooms, no alpine huts (no one climbs to 1,800 metres for dinner).
On your doorstep: eating out in Leutasch
The most obvious choices are right in the village – ideal for your arrival evening, when you don't want to get back in the car. Three places stand out.
The Weidachstube is in the same part of the village as our chalets – Weidach 373b, just a few minutes' walk away. That makes it the most obvious choice for your first evening. The kitchen combines Tyrolean classics with Italian baking: Wiener Schnitzel of veal and venison ragout alongside pizza from a real wood-fired oven and homemade ravioli. An insider tip is the garlic soup, served in a hollowed-out loaf of organic rye bread. With around 4.6 stars from over a thousand reviews, the Weidachstube is often full in the evenings – booking is highly recommended (+43 5214 6456, closed Tuesdays).
One of the best-rated places in the village is the Gasthaus Klammgeist im Alten Zollhaus – a rustic parlour in the historic customs house, right by the entrance to the Leutascher Geisterklamm. Here host Emil cooks whatever the region has to offer: fine venison and lamb dishes, fresh fish and specialities from the charcoal grill. The venison goulash with plum compote, the venison soup and the fish soup are praised again and again in guest reviews. Rustic, warm-hearted, honest – and consistently regional.
If you're travelling with a dog, you're in good hands at the Dorfstadl in Weidach: the rustic wine-tavern barn with its large sun terrace expressly welcomes four-legged guests. On the table come Tyrolean classics – Kasspatzln (cheese spätzle), schnitzel, venison dishes, and for dessert Kaiserschmarrn or Apfelstrudel. Cosy, down-to-earth and ideal for balmy summer evenings outside. You'll find more dog-friendly tips in our guide to a holiday with your dog.
A little further, but worth it: Seefeld & Reith
The Sportalm in Seefeld is, strictly speaking, more of a daytime destination than a classic dinner spot – the all-day kitchen closes at 6pm. But that's exactly what makes it perfect for an early dinner on one of the loveliest sun terraces in the region, for example after a hike on the Gschwandtkopf. The Seyrling family have run the place for six generations and serve genuine Tyrolean cuisine, including the famous Leutasch trout. The full story is in our portrait of the Sportalm; opening times and reservations at sportalm-seefeld.at.

A real insider tip for honest, refined inn cuisine is the Gasthof Hirschen in Leithen near Reith – around 15 minutes' drive towards the Zirler Berg. The house has been an inn for 250 years, originally a monastery farm of Stift Stams dating from the 12th century. The Scholl family run their own farm: beef, veal and milk come from their own land – and you can taste it on the plate. Traditional Tyrolean dishes and timeless classics at fair prices. Hot food served 11:30am–2:30pm and 5:30pm–9pm, closed Mondays and Tuesdays.
Worth the trip: the best restaurants in the Inntal
When an evening is meant to be something special, the road leads into the Inntal to Stams – around 30 minutes, just under 33 kilometres. The Schwarzfischer is restaurant and fishery in one, set idyllically at the foot of the baroque Stift Stams. The fish comes from cold Stamser mountain water and is prepared in the open show kitchen over charcoal and an open flame – consistently "from head to fin", with predominantly regional produce. The kitchen holds a toque from Gault&Millau (11.5 points), two forks from Falstaff (85 points) and features in the Michelin Guide selection 2026. Open Wednesday to Saturday, closed Mondays and Tuesdays – reservation recommended (+43 660 11 58 184). A perfect fit for everyone who loves fish – see also our guide to fishing on the Weidachsee.
For an easy-going yet scenically spectacular evening, the Al Tornante is well worth it, tucked into a hairpin bend of the Zirler Berg road above Zirl, around 25 minutes away. The panorama terrace offers a sensational view over the entire Inntal, accompanied by really good thin wood-fired pizza as well as pasta, schnitzel and grilled platters. Not a gourmet temple, but honest Italian cooking with perhaps the finest view in the region – ideal at sunset.
Prefer to cook in the chalet?
On some evenings you'd rather just stay at home in the chalet. For fresh, regional ingredients, the HUKL Bauernladele in Weidach is just around the corner – from Tyrolean mountain cheese to Speck, bread and eggs from the region. If you'd like to put your own freshly caught fish in the pan: the Weidachsee offers day permits for angling, see our fishing guide. And if it's the alpine kitchen you fancy during the day, we've put together the most beautiful alpine huts around Leutasch – which are the better idea for lunch anyway.
The lovely thing about Leutasch is that in the evening you have the choice: two minutes on foot to the inn, a quarter of an hour to honest farm cooking, or half an hour to fish over an open flame. And afterwards you're back in your own chalet by the fireplace.
