01

A cross-country region with a history.

The trails of the Seefeld region link all five villages on the plateau: Seefeld, Leutasch, Mösern/Buchen, Reith and Scharnitz. Most are groomed for both techniques, classic and skating. In 2019 Seefeld hosted the Nordic World Ski Championships for the second time after 1985, and the region also staged the Nordic events of the 1964 and 1976 Winter Olympics.

Leutasch has a tradition of its own: the International Ganghoferlauf has been held here every year since 1968, one of the oldest popular ski races in Austria.

The snowfarming trail: snow stored from the previous winter.

In Leutasch, snow from the previous winter is stored and spread on the A2 snowfarming trail along the Leutascher Ache in autumn. That is why the season usually starts from mid-November; the other trails are groomed as soon as there is enough snow. The season normally runs until March.

The trail network lies at around 1,000 to 1,400 metres, and Leutasch itself at 1,136 metres. The trails are groomed daily for classic and skating.

Hire equipment, learn the technique.

  • Skischule Leutasch at the Nordic centre by the Alpenbad, Weidach: cross-country lessons and hire.
  • Sport Norz, Weidach: cross-country shop with hire, right by the trail.

If it is your first time on cross-country skis, start on the flat A10 Weidach.

07

In the evening and with your dog.

The region's floodlit night trail is the A1 in Seefeld, open on weekday evenings. There is no official night trail in Leutasch itself.

Dogs are not allowed on the trails. For cross-country skiing with your dog there is the dog trail on the Lenerwiese in Seefeld: 1.9 km, flat, dogs on a lead. More about holidays with your dog.
